Doctrine
- We believe in one and only one true and living God, an infinite, intelligent Spirit, the Creator, Ruler and Sustainer of Universe.
- We believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – and that these three are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections, and worthy of the same homage, confidence and obedience. Together the three persons of the Godhead execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation as well as redemption.
- We believe Jesus Christ, God the Son, was born of the Virgin Mary and received a human body and a sinless human nature and that in Him perfect humanity and deity are found in one personality.
- We believe that, according to the Scriptures, Jesus Christ was crucified, buried and bodily resurrected for the sins of all mankind, and that He will return personally and bodily in the Last Day to make the Final Judgement to both believers and non-believers.
- We believe that man was originally created in the image and likeness of God, and that he fell short of the glory of God because of sin, and that only through the repentance of his sins and acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord will he inherit eternal life, or else suffer eternal condemnation.
- We believe that in the Last Day there shall be bodily resurrection of all mankind (both believers and non-believers).
- We believe that the Holy Spirit, the Third Person within the unity of the Godhead, convicts of sins, of righteousness and of Judgement, regenerates and dwells In every believer as the continuous source of power in all Christian worship and living, and as their Counselor.
- We believe that the Bible (the collection of the sixty-six books, from Genesis to Revelation, also known as the Old Testament and the New Testament), given by the inspiration of God, is without error in the originals, and the only complete revelation of the truth of God and the final authority for all-Christian faith and practice.
- We believe that Jesus Christ is the Head of’ the Church, and that the Church Is formed be the democratic assembly of local believers with the purpose of worshipping God, instructing believers, nurturing fellowship and spreading the Gospel.
History
Three years later, in the spring of 1983, the first phase of the new church was opened (now the secondary church), and in the same year the Church set up a mission fund to prepare for the mission. To date, it has supported several missionaries financially: in China, South America, and North America.
The second phase was completed in the summer of 1992 and is now the main sanctuary hall. In January 1989, ten years after pastoring the community, Pastor David Chan and his wife Esther were called to Hong Kong to serve with Overseas Missionary Fellowship. Pastor Wong Chun-Keung and his wife arrived to serve the church at that time. The English Fellowship and English Worship began in 1989 and 1990 respectively, while the Mandarin Fellowship was established in 1998.
Pastor Leung Chi-Keung (then the deacon of the Church) was called by God to serve as a preacher. In February 1992 after graduating from seminary, he was hired as an assistant preacher. Three years later, he was ordained.
In the summer of 1994, the church sent their first short term mission team. Pastor Wong led a team of seven people to Venezuela for two weeks. During this mission, God inspired a sister to dedicate herself to the mission of a different culture, and was later sent to the Middle East. She was the first missionary sent out by the church. Thanks to the Lord, the church’s mission work continues to flourish, including missions to Chinese seafarers, South American short missions, local short term missions and Chinese short missions.
In the fall of 1995, the Church Planting Discernment Committee was established and a conclusion was established after two years of prayer and discussion. On September 23, 1997, the first worship service at MCBC City-West Mission began. The daughter church became self-reliant in 2000 as Montreal City-West Baptist Church.
From 2002 to 2006, Pastor David Tsang served and led the assembly. For health reasons, he returned to Vancouver in 2006 to recuperate. Pastor Chan Wai Kuen took over as the Senior Pastor of the Association in March 2009 and served until the end of December 2017.
Pastor Rici Be started pastoring the English congregation in 2010 to 2019. Rev. Be was ordained on 13th December 2015.
Pastor Karl pastored the English congregation from December 2020 to August, 2024.
MCBC started adapting the new church constitution in 2018.
Mandarin congregation started to have their own Sunday Service on May 1st 2011, Rev Xuelian Yang started serving as part-time interim pastor on 1st January 2018. Rev. Yang was recognized Ordained Ministry Leader, associated with the CBOQ on 16th May 2023.
